Yuan Longping - a famous agricultural scientist at home and abroad, the founder and leader of China's hybrid rice industry, a close friend of the Communist Party of China, an outstanding representative of people without party affiliation, winner of the "Medal of the Republic", former vice chairman of the Hunan Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, national Former director of the Hybrid Rice Engineering Technology Research Center, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, known as the "father of hybrid rice".

He graduated from Southwest Agricultural College in 1953, and was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 1995. In 1999, an asteroid discovered by the Schmidt CCD asteroid project team of the Beijing Astronomical Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences was named Yuan Longping Star. In 2000, he won the highest national science and technology In 2004, he won the Wolf Prize for Agriculture, was elected as a foreign academician of the National Academy of Sciences in April 2006, received an honorary doctorate degree from Macau University of Science and Technology in 2010, won the 4th China Poverty Alleviation Award Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013, and was elected to China in 2018. Yuan Longping is committed to the research, application and promotion of hybrid rice technology, invented the "three-line method" indica hybrid rice, successfully developed the "two-line method" hybrid rice, and created a super hybrid rice technology system. He also proposed and implemented the "Three-Yield and Four-High-Yield Project", using the technical achievements of super hybrid rice, published 6 monographs in Chinese and English, and published more than 60 papers.

Pass away

At 13:07 on May 22, 2021, Yuan Longping passed away in Changsha, Hunan at the age of 91. Until early 2021, he insisted on carrying out scientific research work at the Nanfan Base in Sanya, Hainan.
